2007 Youth Division
The role of a Coach
is to coach. Coaches work with the players to improve their
capacity to perform, then stand aside and let the players play
the game. Before each game, Coaches help players develop the
skills they need to be successful. After each game, Coaches
help players reflect on and learn from their experiences to
improve their performance in the future.
Young people can be
strong leaders only if we let them. A Coach understands that
just as young people have a natural desire to run, jump and
play, they also have a strong desire to help others, right wrongs
and solve problems in their communities. But this desire needs
to be nurtured gently over time. Coaches let players make mistakes.
We learn by doing and
experiencing the world first-hand. Coaches understand that young
people internalize learning best with hands-on activities. Coaches
encourage young people to become active citizens who care about
and are willing to take action to improve their school and community.
Coaches are dedicated to celebrating the positive over and over
in as many ways as we can. Photos, awards, recognition on announcements
and in websites are just some ways to cement positive experiences.
